At one point in time I had more information in this area, but I've found that some people have done things better (so let them maintain it). ;-)

The best I can say is to start with the original MUD FAQ and read it. From there, spend some time at Mud Connector looking around. There's a lot to see, a lot to do, and the Mud Connector should get you... well... connected. :-)
